If your like me and love those pretzels you get at the shopping centre like Mr pretzels. This is an easy, yummy and cheaper recipe to get those soft delicious pretzels at home.
1½ cups warm water
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
4½ cups all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
10 cups water
2/3 cups baking soda
1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon water, whisked together (for egg wash)
Medium size pot
2 Large bowls
Toppings:Pretty much anything!

Course salt for sprinkling,
Combine the 1 1/5 cups water, sugar,salt and the yeast. And allow it sit for 5 -10 minutes, until the mixture begins to foam.
Step 2 )
Add the butter and flour and mix until mixture is smooth and doughy.
On a floured surface knead the dough for about 2-3 minutes until dough is soft but slightly firm.
Get a large bowl and oil it down then place dough in it and cover with clim film
Place the bowl with the dough in a warm place for aprox an hour or, until the dough has doubled in size.
Then on a oiled surface separate the dough into equal pieces depending on how small or big you want them and begin rolling out to the shape you would like.
* for the traditional shape roll out the pieces into a long roll and form a U then,taking opposite sides of the U cross it over .
Heat up the rest of the water and the bicarbonate soda into a pan a bring to a boil. Then pre heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
Dip each piece of pretzel dough into the water soda mix for about 30 second then,place onto a greased baking pan.

Egg wash your pretzels and,place into the oven and bake until golden brown for about 12-15 mins.
